Canadian Port Equipment Handling Project Case

1. Project Background

In early 2024, a major port on the west coast of Canada planned to upgrade its loading and unloading equipment and conduct annual maintenance on port machinery. This required moving multiple container lifting frames and large mechanical components, each weighing between 18 to 22 tons. The equipment had irregular shapes, and some surfaces had special coatings, which placed high demands on the sling’s load capacity and surface protection performance.

2. Client Requirements

  • Rated load capacity ≥ 24 tons, compliant with ASME B30.9 standard

  • Maintain flexibility and strength at -25°C low temperatures

  • Safe to use in multiple lifting configurations (vertical, basket, and choker hitches)

  • Soft surface to protect the equipment coating from damage

  • Provide English safety manual and test certificates

3. Solution Provided

We recommended the TEH240 wide heavy-duty flat webbing sling:

  • Width: 400 mm

  • Layers: 2 layers of high-strength polyester fiber

  • Rated Working Load (WLL): 24 tons

  • Safety Factor: 7:1

  • Equipped with abrasion protection sleeves and color coding for easy on-site identification

  • Provided an English “Sling Safety and Maintenance Manual” and third-party test report

4. Implementation Process

  1. Customized Production: Used low-temperature-resistant fiber materials with reinforced stitching.

  2. Quality Testing: Conducted static load and low-temperature flexibility tests before shipment.

  3. Logistics & Delivery: Shipped by sea to Vancouver Port with full tracking.

  4. On-site Guidance: Provided video training to the lifting team to ensure correct usage.

5. Client Feedback

  • Remained soft and easy to handle in low temperatures

  • Excellent surface protection, no scratches or damage

  • Even load distribution in multi-point lifting, improving work efficiency

  • Clear color coding made sling management more convenient

6. Results Summary

A total of 10 units of 24-ton wide heavy-duty flat webbing slings were supplied, successfully completing the port equipment handling and installation tasks. This helped the client reduce operation time by approximately 15% and lower surface damage rates. The client has listed us as a long-term qualified supplier and plans to purchase more models in the next quarter.
